Tonight the girls and I did something really neat. We went over to a friends house and made homemade jelly, then canned it! About a month ago we had picked muscidines (misp?) from this friends tree. We took them home and put them in our freezer. Tonight we finally made it over to her house to learn the jelly making and canning process. The girls had so much fun doing it! We were able to make 5 1/2 jars of jelly! My friend said it was always a tradition in her house to make pancakes immediately after they made the jelly b/c the warm, half syrupy jelly tasted fantastic on them. So we took her advice and went home and made some pancakes for dinner and put that jelly on them. They were DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was so, so, so good!! Kirsten says it tastes better than the kind of jelly you buy at Wal-Mart! LOL We are going to wrap a ribbon around 3 of the jars and give them as Christmas gifts. It's neat to know we made it completely from scratch from the very beginning of picking the berries, to putting the finished product in the cans. :) It was a great learning experience!
